Connecticut punishes exterior metal in two directions at once. Along the shoreline — Greenwich, Westport, Fairfield, Norwalk, Milford, Guilford, Old Saybrook, Groton, and Mystic — an onshore breeze off Long Island Sound carries salt aerosol several miles inland every day of the year. It is not a storm event; it is a constant. Salt attacks cut edges and fastener heads first, then creeps under paint that was only applied to the visible top surface, so the awning corrodes from the underside where nobody looks until rust streaks appear on the clapboard below it. Add nor'easters, which behave nothing like a hurricane gust: the Sound funnels a northeast wind into a long-duration, wind-driven-rain event that cycles pressure on a mounted unit for many hours and slowly works lag screws out of siding. Inland and north, the Litchfield Hills and the Northwest Corner carry a heavier design snow load than the coast, and ice dams form at the eaves of the low-pitch porch roofs on the state's older colonials — meltwater refreezes at the drip edge and eventually releases a sheet of ice onto whatever is mounted underneath.
Our answer is a single construction that handles all of it. Frames are extruded aluminum, which cannot rust; every connection uses stainless steel fasteners so there is no mild-steel hardware to bleed down a shingle wall; and the architectural powder coat is applied to 100% of the surface — top, bottom, edges, and inside the hems — leaving salt nothing to bite into. Fixed aluminum awnings and standing-seam canopies shed snow instead of holding it, and a motorized or manual retractable rolls flush into its cassette for the winter, so no fabric is exposed to ice release or to a February nor'easter. We do not publish a Connecticut wind or snow number, because your building official in Stamford or Torrington will want engineering matched to your actual site and exposure — instead we spec the frame gauge, rafter spacing, and mounting to your conditions and supply drawings you can put in a permit set.
