Frequently Asked Questions
What does an adjustable front bar do on a retractable awning?
It lets you change the angle of the awning's leading edge after extension, dropping it to block low sun and glare or tilting it so light rain runs off the sides instead of the front.
Is the Helios™ an adjustable pitch retractable awning?
Yes. On the Helios™ you adjust the pitch of the front bar after the awning extends: lower the leading edge to block low morning or late-afternoon sun and glare, or angle it so light rain runs off the sides.
How much does the Helios™ retractable awning cost?
Helios™ starts at $4,655 (12 ft x 10'-6") and goes to $9,757 for a 29 ft x 12 ft awning, with free shipping to the lower 48 states.
What sizes does the Helios™ come in?
Helios™ is made to order from 12 to 29 feet wide. The 10'-6" projection is available at every width (from $4,655 at 12 ft), and the 12'-0" projection is available from 14 ft wide (from $5,453).
Can I add LED lights to the Helios™ awning?
Yes. The Helios LED lighting kit comes in warm or cool white for $682 and includes an outdoor receiver and Somfy remote.
How is the Helios™ different from the Apollo™, Zeus™ and Hercules™?
Helios™ is an open retractable awning with an optional hood and end covers, built around its adjustable front bar. The Apollo™ (semi-cassette or full cassette, 11–23 ft, from $5,639) and Zeus™ (low-profile cassette, 9–40 ft, from $4,322) close the fabric into a cassette when retracted, and the Hercules™ (17–40 ft, up to 16'-6" projection, from $9,477) is built for large and commercial spans. Choose Helios™ when low sun is your main problem; choose a cassette model if you want the fabric enclosed when closed or need more than 29 ft of width.
Can the Helios™ retract automatically in wind?
Yes, with the optional Somfy® Eolis 3D wirefree wind sensor ($308). Somfy Ondeis rain & sun ($407) and Sunis sun ($263) sensors are also available.
Can I install the Helios™ myself?
Yes. Because the Helios™ starts at 12 ft wide, plan on a crew of three or more for the lift. Mount the brackets into studs or solid masonry, hang the awning and set the pitch; a plug-in motor needs no electrician, but a hardwired (4-wire) motor or LED connection should go to a licensed pro. Follow our step-by-step DIY retractable awning installation guide.
How long does the Helios™ take to ship?
Each Helios™ is built to order in Tampa, Florida and typically ships in 2–3 weeks, free to the lower 48 states. Call 1-800-AWNINGS (296-4647) for help with sizing or mounting.
