Standing Seam vs. Louvered vs. Bahama: How to Choose Your Awning Style

Once you've decided on a durable aluminum awning, the next question is style. The shape you choose affects shade, ventilation, weather performance, and the whole look of your building. Here's how our three most popular metal styles compare.

Standing seam awnings

Standing seam awnings use a welded aluminum framework topped with a raised-seam panel — the same clean, architectural look you see on premium metal roofing. They shed water and snow well, carry a sharp modern profile, and are a favorite for storefronts that want a high-end, low-maintenance statement.

Best for: storefronts, entrances, and homes wanting a crisp, contemporary metal-roof look with strong weather performance.

Louvered canopies

Louvered systems use angled blades (louvers) that provide shade while allowing air — and sometimes light — to pass through. They deliver clean modern lines and excellent ventilation, and cantilever versions can skip front posts for an unobstructed look.

Best for: patios, walkways, and modern commercial spaces that want shade plus airflow and a contemporary aesthetic.

Bahama shutters / ShadeView

Bahama shutters mount at the top of a window and angle outward, giving a breezy, tropical character while blocking direct sun and adding privacy. Made from powder-coated aluminum, they're as durable as they are distinctive.

Best for: coastal and hospitality looks, storefronts, and homes wanting shade plus a strong design statement.

Quick comparison

  • Want maximum weather protection and a modern roofline? Standing seam.
  • Want shade plus airflow and clean lines? Louvered.
  • Want character, privacy, and a coastal vibe? Bahama.

Whichever you choose, we build it from commercial-grade extruded aluminum, finish it in-house in your color or wood-grain, and size it to your exact opening.

Frequently asked questions

Which style handles snow best?

Standing seam sheds snow and water especially well thanks to its sloped, sealed panel.

Can I get any of these in a custom color or wood-grain?

Yes — all are available in our wide powder-coat range and wood-grain aluminum finishes.

Are louvered canopies available without front posts?

Yes — cantilever louvered options provide unobstructed shade without front supports.
